Hospital and Nursing Facility, NEW YORK CITY
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) contracted Forest Electric New York/Datacom to renovate the Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) building located at 1879 Madison Avenue in New York City, New York. Forest Electric New York/Datacom was chosen based on its successful track record and expertise in general electric work, IT, and other security applications.
VALUE DELIVERED
Although HHC had given Forest Electric an extremely aggressive schedule to keep, the Forest Electric team was able to meet each and every deadline without fail. From the installation of all lighting, devices, and specialty hospital systems, to the installation of all the MDF cabling and risers, Forest Electric completed all facets of the project in just four months. The entire project was completed on time and on budget.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Forest Electric New York provided and installed the interior fit-out of the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and the core and shell of the renovated Long Term Acute Care Hospital building. The electric division’s responsibilities in the LTACH building included:
- Providing a new generator, UPS system, and switchgears for all mechanical equipment
- Providing installation power to all devices lighting, dimming, fire alarm, and hospital specialty systems—such as nurse’s call, rescue assistance, public address, and radiation detection systems
Special care was taken to ensure patient rooms were delivered with the highest quality so that there was absolute confidence that all medical equipment was operating as required.
The Data Group delivered and installed the critical security, IT, and AV infrastructure for the hospital. The Data Group’s responsibilities included:
- Expert copper, fiber, coax, AV, and security installation
- Installation of multi-mode, single-mode, and copper risers
- Build-out of the data center and TRs
- Installation of all patient and non-patient TVs
- Installation of AV racks and associated speaker systems
- Installation of wireless clocks throughout both buildings
SOLUTIONS
Forest Electric New York installed a new 1,250 KW generator on the roof of the LTACH building, which included the associated risers and cables that ran from the cellar to the roof switchgear. Forest Electric also replaced the building’s original motor control center, thereby powering the mechanical equipment with new switchgear and starters.
In the SNF building, Forest Electric provided all the lighting, a dimming system, all devices, a fire alarm system, a public address system, a rescue assistance system, and a radiation detection system. All systems were tied into the nurse’s stations on each of the individual floors to allow the nursing staff to monitor patients at all times.
Forest New York/Datacom installed approximately 1.5 million feet of Cat6 cable to over 850 stations throughout each of the ten floors. Forest Electric also installed MM and SM fiber risers from the MDFs in both buildings to each TR. Additionally, Forest facilitated and installed the complete security system, which included cameras, card readers, locks, a patient wandering management system, and temperature monitoring. Forest was also contracted to F&I the AV systems, which included patient and non-patient televisions, a complete coax system, AV racks, and all associated speakers.
BACKGROUND
Coler-Goldwater Nursing Facility was originally located on Roosevelt Island. It was decided by NYS to relocate this facility to a new site in Harlem consisting of a two building combined structure now known as the Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility.
